2 Clap Salute
Today was the tag sale, kind of like a garage sale right….No!! I felt like I was on an episode of storage wars, mixed with american pickers. The morning started with Gigi telling me to to go register for the Tag sale at 8:00AM. “G it’s only 5 minutes away I doubt it will matter if we get there at 8:15, it doesn’t start ‘til 9” I murmured while brushing my teeth. She hesitantly agreed to follow my course and we arrived at 8:15 to see a line of 12 people outside of our new home. Great, I am already in the dog house and we haven’t even been inside. While waiting in line I noticed an older man trying to sneak past me in line. After asking him get to the back of the line he yelled at me to scoot up. Wow the nerve, we are outside of MY HOUSE. At 9, the door opens to a rush of the first 10 people. I honestly thought they were going to break the door down, what kind of treasure did they know about that I wasn’t privy of? After 5 minutes I got in the door and was overwhelmed, as the “newbie” to the tag sale I was like a baby at a poker table. I walked upstairs and sat on the bed waiting for my wife who was in line to come save me. We stayed at the tag sale until it closed because we were told we would get to choose the left over items that we wanted to stay in the house. We actually purchased 2 end tables and an old accordion style camera for $100. We drug our feet on a kitchen table for $40 dollars and watched our future neighbors purchase the table and walk it out of the front door. What were we thinking it was only $40. Actually, it was my fault…”no one will buy that” I said to Gigi as she walked over to it. I was a newbie but for some reason felt I was seasoned at Tag Sales after being in it for 1 hr.
Tables we bought:

We find out in 4 days what other goodies we will inherit from the home owners. Cross your fingers!
The fun began as soon as the offer was accepted, now we had to sign the documents. Sounds easy right… Well it wasn’t we still negotiated the final rate and also the closing date. The estate was owned by siblings who apparently didn’t communicate one of the siblings who currently lived in the house on weekdays. Next came the inspection, we showed up to the inspection on a lovely Saturday with an inspector who we found glowing reviews on, he did not disappoint. We drudged around the house for over 5 hours, looking at everything, I mean everything wrong with the house. The caulking, the carpenter bees, the masonry on the steps the fireplace, the bathroom toilet, and the galvanized steel pipes to name a few. The entire list was about 24 items ranging from, I will never have to change this, to wow I need to change this now. After the 5 hours Gigi and I looked at each other and thought out loud “what have we gotten ourselves into”. Don’t worry we said they will take care of the repairs….Wrong again, the siblings through their lawyer declined to make any of the repairs or updates to the house to our dismay. Gigi was furious, I was upset but at that point the only power we had was to walk, and that wasn’t easy because we already thought it was our place. We went back requesting 3 items be repaired and what do you know they said yes and offered a credit for the repairs. I was shocked and had a great feeling about our home, our agent was ecstatic as well “I cannot believe it, this is crazy” We get an estimate on the repairs and they were where we expected. Everything seems to be working out for the house.

So after going to an open house we were told to check out, we saw it. Well the interesting part is that I was the first to see this place on my endless search for houses/condos/townhouses in every city in NJ. At first I thought the place was nice but for some reason didn’t pursue looking at the place until the agent suggested it (maybe it was all the wallpaper). When we saw the house we both fell in love with it, Gigi was first to fall in love then me. Was I thrown off by her love of the house to love the house as well? Who knows, I had a sense of nostalgia for the house I had been in for all of 2 minutes. We went from room to room and it seemed there were goodies everywhere. Every room had a new adventure (I will touch on the adventures later) and old charm that we felt was ours. We decorated the place in our minds and began to figure out, wow this is our house. 15 minutes after being in the house we were outside discussing our place. We both were even upset the open house was continuing, we didn’t like all of the strangers in our house anymore. Fifteen minutes after we left the house we called our agent and put an offer on the house. Two minutes after that Gigi was crying, we realized that our life was changing and a mortgage would soon be on the way. No the tears were not of Joy.
The house was only on the market for 6 days and had 2 offers we were first, but sometimes you think that is a bluff. We got the house and then the fun part started….
I am reading a book but realizing that I will only read books to share the experience. Reading a book that no one reads to me is useless. This need for shared experience leads me to never see a movie by myself or watch a movie by myself either.
